Miran Hladnik (1954) is a university teacher, specializing in the Slovene literary history. He has published several books about the narrative form called povest ('story';
http://lit.ijs.si/povest1.html ), about popular literature (http://lit.ijs.si/trivlit1.html ), historical novel (http://www.ff.uni-lj.si/oddelki/slovenistika/mh/szr.pdf) and about the Slovene rural story (http://lit.ijs.si/skp1.html ). His Introduction to the study of literature has appeared in 6 editions so far, along with a parallel internet edition (http://lit.ijs.si/spisovn.html ). He is the editor of the collected poems of the Slovene classical poet Alojz Gradnik encompassing 5 volumes. He is especially interested in the history of the Slovene narrative genres, the Slovene historical novel in the first place. He maintains a number of Internet pages focusing on the Slovene literature, furthermore, he runs the discussion forum Slovlit (http://mailman.ijs.si/listinfo/slovlit ). The book Slovene for Travelers is a side product of his one-year stay in the USA as a Fulbright fellow and a teacher of the Slovene language.
